I crawled around in a beat up old barn today. While poking around up in the loft I found, of all things, the front hinge of a box turtle shell plastron (lower side of the shell). Nothing else. No clue how that got up there.
Old Sulcata Tortoise skull. For sale in my shop!
I think my coonhound is actually a turtlehound. She sniffed this cute little guy out when we went to the creek last week.
Dried out snapping turtle feets. Also for sale in my shop! :)
Snapping Turtle Tails again. Got these from a gal that salvaged them from some roadkill turtles.
Dried out Snapping Turtle Tails
Another shot of that dead snapping turtle I found.
Big fellow. And brutally smelly too, haha.
Here’s that huge old snapping turtle I found on the bank of my pond the other day. Looked like he just crawled out of the pond and died. Poor old dude.
Some critter got ahold of the carcass before I found it and ate off the tail and back feet unfortunately. Still, if all goes well once it’s clean I’ll do a partial skeletal mount of him.
Sometimes, crotchety old sliders don’t like it when you rescue them from busy roads and move them to nearby ponds in the direction they were heading in the first place.
But that’s okay. :)
