I provided a taxi service to a grumpy snapping turtle this morning. He was headed down to the pond in my pasture and I didn’t want the horses to stomp him so I gave him a hand.

Finished cleaning the spiny softshell turtle shell up! I could have gotten it whiter but it’s pretty fragile and I didn’t want to risk it falling apart. Such a cool find!

A couple of guys I know were at a wildlife sanctuary recently for a presentation one of them was giving and they found this beauty on display there. It’s a humongous alligator snapping turtle skull (between a grown man’s feet there). My friend said he thought about walking out with it for me but decided they might not invite him back if he did that, haha.
SO on my skull wish list!

Pulled into my driveway just in time to catch this handsome fellow crawling across it. I decided to chauffeur him on his way across the road so no one would hit him.

A girl came around the bend in the road right in front of my house just as he was rearing up with his mouth open at me. Bet that was quite a sight! She pulled over and jumped out of her car to take some pics before wishing me luck and driving off. I finally managed to get him across the road safely after that.

Snapping Turtle skull and set of humerus bones.

Both bones have some pathologies but one is especially deformed. The entire middle of the bone is swollen and there is a hole that goes deep into the bone.

Poor guy was likely shot and the bullet lodged in the bone. It’s not visible in the hole but I imagine the bone surrounded it and it’s probably in the knot towards the back.

Tough old turtle.

I crawled around in a beat up old barn today. While poking around up in the loft I found, of all things, the front hinge of a box turtle shell plastron (lower side of the shell). Nothing else. No clue how that got up there.

I think my coonhound is actually a turtlehound. She sniffed this cute little guy out when we went to the creek last week.
