This is the skull from a friend of mine’s mustang that he had to put down after it became sick.
This skull has a pretty incredible pathology. See that gaping hole in its jaw? That’s where it lost a tooth, likely very early in the animal’s life, and the bone never healed. But the remaining teeth grew flush together up top and all the other molars became much larger to compensate for the missing tooth.
The horse never really had a name but I met him once when he was alive and he looked just like General Robert E. Lee’s horse Traveller so that’s what I’ve decided to call him.
