My dad found this rad goodie for me at an antique store in southern TN a couple weeks ago. The guy he bought it from said he got in a big box full of old African masks a while back. My dad paid a whopping $15 for it.
Now this piece threw me for a loop. I couldn’t figure out what the heck it was. The spiral is not natural and was carved by someone and the rest of the horn is very weathered and polished. But after doing some research and talking to a taxidermist friend of mine and showing her some pictures it has been IDed as a Sable antelope horn. And at right at 35 inches long it’s a big one too.
I love this thing. It’s just a gorgeous piece and its now a treasured addition to my collection. :)
